Application for SDS Scholarship to Attend 2011 Conference in San Jose
We have a modest amount of money allocated for scholarships to help support low income, international, and student attendees presenting at Society for Disability Studies. In the past, based on applicant need, we have tended to divide this money equally among all people applying for funds and we have given priority to members and to international participants. The average award in the past has been around $200.00. We encourage everyone with financial need to apply.
Please note the following: We can only provide scholarships to people who are presenting in some capacity at the conference.
If you would like to apply, please send the answers to the 8 questions below to Michele Friedner and Devva Kasnitz by April 30th, 2011. You will receive a response by May 5th. In addition, if you do not receive a response to your email within a few days from Michele Friedner, PLEASE resend it. Michele will send an acknowledgment email upon receipt.
Scholarship applicants may also apply for a volunteer position below.

Meeting Registration Waivers Available for 2011 Volunteers:
In addition, SDS has a few volunteer positions for which student/low income members may volunteer for an approximately 6-hour shift and have their registration fee waived or refunded. Volunteers will work directly with the organizers and staff to assist with on-site registration, monitor meeting rooms, troubleshoot any presenters’ problems, run an occasional errand, direct foot traffic, and generally help with the smooth running of program sessions. In many cases, volunteers can attend sessions while acting as a room monitor, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Please note that we are only able to waive conference registration fees for members registering at the lowest rates (e.g., student, low-income).
If you are interested in one of these positions, please email Devva Kasnitz. In this email, please state the answers to the following 8 questions. Make your interest known as soon as possible. Positions will be open until filled. An individual may apply for both of these two means of financial support, a scholarship and a volunteer position.
